I'm feeling a bit out of sorts today.
I did my radio show "Toast in the Machine" last night, which was fun. I played a Joe Frank radio playJoe Frank Homepage from NPR called Hawaii, which was sweet. A nice caller called in to commend it.
Then I went into my "Jack Nitzsche Special". That was fun, played stuff from the Lonely Surfer solo album, first Crazy Horse album, A Man Needs a Maid, Performance Soundtrack, etc.
His Three-Piece Suite album I just got from Rhino Handmade in the mail yesterday is amazing. I keep listening to his unreleased album on there. These semi-doo-wop kinda ballads that are really sad and touching. He does "rip your heart out with those fucking strings" as he said. Look at the Lonely Surfer cover on amazon.com. He invented geek chic.
"I'm the loneliest fool in the atmosphere". Great line.
Then I played some punk to shake things up.. Frog Eyes, great local band from here in Victoria, then some Germs (Lexicon Devil) and Rocket from the Tombs (Pere Ubu-before they were Pere Ubu). Great insanity.
I'm also in a recall war (book at the library wanted by two parties who keep recalling it.. giving the reader a short reading time with the book forcing them to recall it from the other party because you've been unable to finish it) over this book of Gary Snyder essays.
Looking for a job, as always it seems too, annoying. Hopefully my loan for my summer classes will come in soon. Don't like being broke.
Had fun cooking w/ the roommates on Sun. We made pizzas, cookies, and these little pastry things. Tasty.
I'm a bit tired of all this. Going out for coffee with a cute girl tomorrow so that's nice.
Oh! I almost forgot! My film club got accepted as a club by the university. It's called "Magnificent Obsession" after the Douglas Sirk film/Rock Hudson vehicle. My friend Lydia and I are running it, with my friend Dave as the treasurer. Oh.. that reminds me we have to finish our Twin Peaks marathon! Probably won't get to before I leave for Winnipeg.
Winnipeg! Yes Winnipeg! Road trip! Some of the CFUV 101.9 crew are driving out there for the National Campus and Community Radio Conference which should be tons of fun. Radio radio. Mmm.
That's all for now I think. Just getting used to this whole online diary business.
