Sometimes I'm of a mind that we've run out of momentous deeds, that any great speech suffused with meaning and raw emotion will only fall upon deafened uncaring ears. If this is true, that the ability to think and rise and stir is lost, then greatness is like a drained corpse upon which is feeding the bloated leeches of the spectacle.
But other times I think that a quest, instead of a path to some great glory that will be immortalized in a historical treatment, is merely an infinite series of moments. If we can live greatly, that is, suffuse every moment with mindfulness, creativity, and some kind of honest grace, then we don't need to thrust ourselves onto a pedastal in some great moment; the simple act of breathing, feeling, living, existing - within that is all the greatness that we will ever need.
Tonight I am of both minds.
And the rain still falls.
