Ive spent the last couple of days ensconced in a hideously expensive hotel room in London, for work. The only thing in the space I occupied that wasnt made out of mahogany, marble or silver was me. I think it cost more to clean my finger prints off the door handles than Ill get paid this month.
I had a balcony over the Thames and access to a room service menu where I struggled to find a meal that didnt cost more than my weekly food shop. In the end I admitted to a PR that I hadnt had breakfast because I didnt want anyone to pay 22 for a full English breakfast. I ended up convincing him a bacon roll and a mug of tea would be just fine before the days work began.
Ive also discovered Iron And Wine. Theyre a kinda modern folky-acoustic set up. I think it might be a single bloke. But either way, they/he/it, rock in a straw-chewing, rocking-chair-on-the-porch sort of a way. They make me sad in a happy way. Youll either understand that completely or think Im mad. If its the former then buy any of their albums.
Memories of you, I will always keep. God saw you were tired, and put you to sleep
I rediscovered this short film the other day. Its understated, simple but beautiful all the same.
