1:Because it seems like hurting a criminal as a response to them hurting someone else is just pointless pain. Its actually kind of sadistic.

1:um whatever, i just think that any rules a soceity creates for itself should policed with the idea of prevention, not retrobution of any wrongs done.
2: but if there were no retrobution for hurting someone there would be no reason not to, you need it as a deterrent.
1:do you really think most people would have no qualms with killing and raping, the only reason their held back is because of the law? i have a little more credit for mankind than that.

1:yes humanity is flawed, our enviournment is changing faster than we can adapt to it, and people freak out from time to time because of all the confusing constructs that have arisin within society, the legal system being a small part of that. but things are constantly changing, and if we want them to go in a good direction at a steady pace it seems like we have to remember that humanity isnt evil and hold that point of veiw when we make important decisions about governing ourselves.
