Music is quite frustrating right now.
I'm finding it hard to vent in any other way than to sit down with a guitar at the moment, but while it's sounding particularly good and while I've been figuring out a few new songs, somehow I feel like I'm playing the same thing over and over again. I need to find a way to jam with my friends on a regular basis-- playing across something instead of hammering out a tune on my own.
I've been looking at chord sequences in Beatles songs this week. It sounds kinda anal and obsessive, but I'm hoping to learn about songwriting and construction by studying the masters. The Beatles were great at playing what sounded good, not what they ought to play. By contrast, I write what I ought to write and a lot of my stuff sounds formulaic and dull. Hopefully, the exercise will broaden my horizons and show me how to be more creative.
In the meantime, I've also bought a 4CD compilation of Rat Pack songs to digest. Could be fun.

I need some people to jam with too. I have about 8 songs written but no one to play with. I was jamming with this one band for about two weeks but it didn't work out. There lead singer wanted to emulate his favorite band of all time Yes, and I wasn't down with that at all haha.
I think Dean Martin's "When You're Drinking" is the best song about alcohol ever hehe.
