I decided this weekend that I'm tired of people wanting me to take sides. I don't know why they want me to and I don't know why they even try. I had the awkward privilege on Saturday night of attending a concert with one group of friends, meeting up with another group, attempting to introduce the two and then discovering that one of the guys had an issue with the boyfriend of the girl I introduced him to. And a mutual friend of just about everyone in the room. I'm tired of having to tiptoe around people because I don't know what someone else is going to say/think or I don't know what I'm allowed to say to someone else I might meet.
Let's be clear here-- I don't play that game. I don't care what I'm supposed to say; I'll say what I know, what I think and what I consider best for the other person to know. I'm not going to avoid someone or stop talking to them because you burn your bridges or decide on a regular basis that someone isn't your flavour of the month. If you ask me my opinion on a situation, I won't come out 100% on your side, because I'm realistic and realise that almost no-one is an irredemable bastard. Or a saint. If I thought more than 5% of the world were, I'd probably be hanging from my belt in Bridgend right now. If you have a problem with that, you really don't understand who I am, or "how I roll". More to the point, if you make me pick sides, I will, but I won't be on yours.
