At some point this morning-- either on the way to work or not long after I started-- I became aware of a quite sharp pain in my chest. After trying all kinds of things to remedy it while at work, I got home and it still hurt. After a 7 hour shift, this is quite a scary thing and I started to freak out. All kinds of ridiculous things came to mind and I started analysing my diet, exercise regime, my family's disposition to (for?) heart disease... all of these were probably good things, but ultimately perhaps my first port of call should have been an analysis of the more immediate causes for chest pain.
Getting about 2 hours' sleep, for example
Stuffing 2 pieces of toast, covered in chocolate spread, into my mouth before running straight out of the house
Then walking a mile to the bus stop.
Second port of call should have been the antacids in the kitchen drawer
Followed, perhaps by an analysis of my family's disposition for/to heartburn.
Only managed to freak out about half a dozen of my friends by telling them I had severe chest pains...
