Today was my first of three days off work this week.
Inevitably, working shifts and under a fair amount of stress, I appear to have picked up the beginnings of a cold, but it wasn't enough to spoil an otherwise productive day.
As planned, I spent about 3 hours studying bass lines from John Legend's first album. For a man that plays keys, his songs pretty much hang around the bass line. I think I can tick that one off Saturday's list.
I also spent an hour studying Spanish verbs and can now conjugate all three classes of regular verbs in the present tense. It's a start.
In addition, I watched a few commentaries on Prison Break. Okay, that wasn't entirely educational, but I feel like I learnt a lot about performance and figured out a few things that can be transferred from film to music.
Finally, this evening I had my first band practice in... at least a year. It was nice-- 4 people with quite strong opinions, but somehow finding a nice balance where we share ideas equally without confrontation. At least not on artistic matters, anyway. And we sound pretty good too. I don't know how long I'll be playing with these guys in the future, but it will be fun while it lasts. We have a gig on Sunday, and I'm quite excited for people to hear us play.
