I thought this was interesting:
"Italian scientist reproduces Shroud of Turin"
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20091005/sc_nm/us_italy_shroud
"An Italian scientist says he has reproduced the Shroud of Turin, a feat that he says proves definitively that the linen some Christians revere as Jesus Christ's burial cloth is a medieval fake."
Some people might wonder why he bothered, but I think it's worth knowing the truth. Mysteries are interesting... but I always want to know the ANSWER. How/why something was done...
"The Catholic Church does not claim the Shroud is authentic nor that it is a matter of faith, but says it should be a powerful reminder of Christ's passion."
I think it's better as a reminder that there are people out there who will go to great lengths to hoax people. Though in this case, it was done a LONG time ago. This wont' stop certain people from believing in the Shroud, but at least the truth is out there (or most of it) for those of us who just want the facts.
