It's been a while since I last updated. Saturday was fun, I finally got to hang out with SGNY for the first time in what seems like forever. I met a bunch of cool new people, as well as seeing all of my old SGNY friends. And I got to meet Narcissus, on vacation in NYC, which was fun. I think, however, that next time I probabyl shouldn't be the first person to show up at 6PM and then drink until 2AM. That kind of killed my Sunday, although I still managed to have a good time. One of my friends from college who has been in New York city as long as I have is moving back to California to do a clerkship for a federal judge in San Diego, and so I had a sort of going away dinner for him at my place.
It was the first time I had actually entertained more than two or three people at a time in my apartment, and I was surprised it worked out as well as it did. We got lucky with the weather, otherwise things might not have gone so well. As many of you probably already know, we've been seeing bits of pieces of what was a hurricane further South and is now just an annoying, endless rainstorm here. But it was clear and didn't rain for a good, solid portion of Sunday afternoon, long enough to have a barbecue on the roof my building without anyone getting as much as a single raindrop on them. I did find that cooking for a few hours is a good way to at least temporarily stave off the worst effects of a hangover. The menu:
My own recipe for bruschetta, which is simple in that the topping is just chopped tomatoes, basil and olive oil, and I get the garlic flavor in there by cutting up italian bread and toasting it in the oven, brushing it with olive oil and rubbing garlic cloves on it.
Fresh corn on the cob (unfortunately not the New Jersey silver queen variety, what is unquestionably the best corn available but for some reason is never sold in New York city grocery stores.)
Potato salad, my grandmother's recipe, also simple but works very well. Just potatos, onion, celery and mayonnaise, but the trick is to heavily salt the water in which one boils the potatoes.
Grilled marinated chicken served on a bed of orzo, spinach and red pepper. Thanks to klaire for this paricular recipe. It turned out quite well, the only change I made was switching from a lemon to a lime marinade on the chicken.
Quality summer food, which I don't get nearly enough of regularly. Fortunately I have lots of leftovers, so I can have it again tonight (and maybe tomorrow too.)
I hope everyone else had a good weekend.

Oh, and even though Z says everyone that comes over to my place gets molested, It actually all depends on how good the dinner is first!
And yes, I will be hosting an XBox party within the next few weeks. Nerds only, please.
