Oh the trials and tribulations of dating in the age of the internet. (yes, another emotional lament from legionnaire. Feel free to skip to the end.)
Last week K. and I were e-mailing back and forth quite a bit, mostly about politics and the Iowa caucases and other romantic topics like that. She mailed me a long message on Wednesday, then I mailed her a long one back on Thursday. Of course, Hotmail was misbehaving. After I sent the message, rather than going to the typical "your message was delivered to blah@blah.com" it froze for a second, then asked me for my password. Then froze for a few more seconds, and eventually sent me to a page where it said my message had been delivered. Right. Never trust microsoft.
I didn't hear from K. at all, which I thought was kind of surprising since she usually wrote me back right away. And I didn't want to send one of those "oh, just wondering if you got my e-mail" messages, because I think they're annoying, and I wanted to give her some time to write back and not feel like I was pressuring her.
I spent the weekend stuck in a circle of hell that Dante never even envisioned - e-mail Limbo. Not sure if I had even sent a message at all, not sure if I had somehow said something to piss her off without realizing it, wondering if maybe she was too busy, maybe she met some other great guy and was thinking "oh, i just won't legionnaire back, who wants to date a disease anyway?" Not knowing can be very frustrating, and like I said in a journal entry a while ago, when I get into a girl, I tend to get really into her and think about her a lot. Which is where I was with K. I also mentioned that I'm not very good at telling how interested in me a girl is, which can be difficult, especially because I know this.
So finally, tonight I figured I would just drop her a quick note since we had dinner reservations for Friday night, and if she hadn't gotten my last message she wouldn't know that I had agreed to go out that night. So I sent her a "Hi, hope you had a good weekend, my e-mail was fucking with me, etc. etc., just wanted to confirm that we're still on for Friday" a few hours ago.
She wrote me back quickly, about 2 hours after I e-mailed her. But the message was "yeah, we're still on if you wanna be. Though I was just talking to
a friend tonight who said (the restaurant we were planning on going to)'s food actually kind of sucks. Then it was confirmed by another friend. This I did not know. Should we go someplace else? What do you think?" Not exactly the best tone for a message. I had actually heard similar things about the place where we had reservations, so I jumped on to this restaurant reservation website to see if I could get something else. But getting into a nice place on a Friday night in New York city can be tough, and during restaurant week it's impossible.
I got something for Saturday night at another place that I know is good, and sent her a message telling her about it. We'll see - basically if she doesn't want to go out again this is an easy out for her. Wish me luck.
In better news, my SG stickers have finally arrived today in the mail. I have my sights set on a bunch of targets already, so let the tagging commence.
