I'm lame. I slept in until 2:30pm today, so I don't think I'm going to make it to SGNY weekly world domination, as I have to go to en engagement party now. Next week though.... I promise.
Last night was fun. With a few of my friends we did a bad movie double feature (with pot brownies.) The first bad movie was Torque. Not only was this a bad movie, it was easily the worst movie I've ever seen in the theater. Fortunately it was so bad that it was highly amusing, and everyone else in the theater seemed to have the same idea that we did - let's watch a movie that we know will suck. So there was a sort of camaraderie in being with a bunch of other people who were making fun of a movie in the theater. But come on, what were they expecting? When the climactic scene of the movie consists of an ultra-high speed motorcycle chase through LA that's entirely computer generated, and your hero spouts off lines like "I live my live a quarter mile at a time" you can't honestly expect anyone to think that it's good.
The second half of the double feature was an indie film straight out of Sundance called Bubba Ho-Tep. Now this movie was actually legitimately funny (although, to be honest, I was on my 5th brownie at this point, so C-SPAN would have probably been funny too.) The movie starred Bruce Campbell (who I love, from the Evil Dead films) as a patient in a nursing home who either was or is convinced that he was Elvis Presley, we're never quite sure. He and his friend who is convinced that he was JFK (he's black, by the way) find out that an ancient egyptian mummy is terrorizing the nursing home, stealing people's souls and killing them. Yep, that's the premise, and they're sticking to it. But they got so much mileage out of it, it's wonderful. Highly recommended.
Today is freezing cold yet again, but I've still managed to make it to the gym. I threw my back out two days doing military presses, so I'm kind of taking it easy the next few times when I go. And I had a nice, relaxing time in the steam room, which is great when it's 10 degrees outside, which it currently is.
So as I mentioned, I'm off to an engagement party for the French people (who are getting married, obviously.) It should be OK - and I have an easy out, since the person who is throwing the party has several cats, and I am allergic to cats, so if the party isn't that good I can easily bail. But hopefully that won't be necessary.
Anyway, my apologies to waxangel for skipping out on your event, but I hope lots of people show up and it turns out to be fun, since I'm looking forward to it for next week. And I just love the idea in general of Saturday afternoon lounging around a bar.
