Well, I'm working from home today. Which means I slept 11 hours last night.
I'm editing a paper that I'm trying to get published in Development, it's about the role of a particular neurotrophic factor in the development of the tongue. Not exactly scoring high on the scientific sex-appeal meter, unfortunately. But I think it's got a shot at getting accepted.
So yesterday was fun. I went out with C. to a wine tasting that was held at school. We got to try five different Bordeaux wines, ranging from a fairly crappy blended white bordeaux to a really beautiful '99 Margaux. I'm in no way a wine snob/geek, but I can appreciate a nice wine, and this one was. Plus there was one Sautern, which I can't stand (but didn't stop me from drinking it.)
C. is great - I've know her for a long time, we went to college together (she lived across the street from me) and our best friends were dating each other, which is how we got to become friends. After college I went to work at UCSF and later on she came to work in the same building as I was. Then I moved to New York, and last year she came and is at med school at the same school that I go to. It's like she's following me around or something. Actually, she's one of those rare combinations of intelligence, wit and beauty. Which is why I never bothered asking her out before, since I figured she was out of my league. And now we're sort of at that point where we've been friends for a long time, so I'm afraid I'd fuck it up I asked her out. Who knows, we'll see.
I should just get a god damned girlfriend already, and that way I can stop boring you all with tedious talk of various females. And then I can spend more time talking about ninjas and robots and evil plans for world domination.
I'm off to Boston this weekend for my an ex-girlfriend's birthday party. While Boston is probably one of the last places I want to be in these sub-arctic temperatures, her parties tend to be a lot of fun, and even though she's my ex- we still usually have at least one fun hookup whenever I see her. And it will be good to leave the city, if only for a little while.
Unfortunately it means that I'll be missing the SG Philly party this weekend, but alas, I'll have to hit the next one. I've decided to go to Burlesque when it comes to New York though, which should be fun and another good chance to hang out with people from the site.
So stay warm, everyone! (Except you Californians. You can all go to hell for having warm weather. )
