Damn, Sorcha is too fast for me.

OK, so I got around to writing part of one my new pieces. Here's one I'm sure you can all relate to: why working sucks. Actually, I'd love to hear from anyone who has similar/better stories, I'm sure they're out there. Hell, my mother worked as a factory line worker in a bubble gum cigar factory, which tops anything I ever did. So bring them on!

Today was surprisingly productive, a wonderful break in my most recent streak of unproductivity. I decided at the last minute to stay home and work, I've been meaning to edit this paper I'm trying to submit to the Journal of Cell Science for ages now, and haven't been able to sit down and actually do it. Well, fueled on coffee, adrenaline, and loud techno, I managed to focus my somewhat limited attention span for a good, solid 5 hours and get the damned thing edited and sent off to my co-author for review. Whew! I'm very happy. Unfortunately, I believe that I've determined an inverse correlation between the amount of time spent on this website each day and the amount of work I get done. I believe it's roughly sigmoidal, with an IC50 of approximately 2 hours/day. But that's still not good. So I need to limit myself. Oh well.

One more paper to edit and I'm free and clear for quite a while.

I took a nice break this afternoon to go to the gym. For once I didn't have to get out of there in a hurry, so I had a chance to go to the steam room and relax. Despite getting some weird looks from the (albeit snooty) other patrons at my tattoo, it was really nice and relaxing.

Tonight I just chilled, had some good food and then met up with some friends at a bar, from which I have just returned. Lots of nice beers on tap, and I had a chance to drink Dixie, a highly underrated beer from New Orleans.

I sent K. (from last night) an e-mail this afternoon with the typical post-date "I had a great time, I was wondering if you wanted to get together next week" type stuff. No response. We'll see what happens, but I fear my initial assessment was correct. Sucks. We'll see.

Tomorrow night could be interesting, I may be meeting up for Jaidee's birthday party at Suede with the SGNY crew (who rocks, by the way) we'll see. I need to get into the lab and actually get that behavioral experiment done. The equipment is now fixed, and everything is ready to go. But the best laid plans of mice and men... (ugh, I can't count the number of horrible Steinbeck puns I've seen ever since mice became the model system of choice in biology. I promise, this is the last one, and I attribute it solely to that third beer.)
