Well, the date is finally confirmed. May 24th I'll be defending my thesis and (hopefully, if the defense goes well) completing my doctorate. It's about damned time - it's been a little over five and a half years since I started my studies. A lot has happened since then, but in a lot of ways I've stayed the same - some of them not good. Part of the problem with entering a graduate program is that it tends to freeze you in time from the time that you start. I'm still living in a crappy apartment that wouldn't be out of place for a 23 year old. I have no savings to speak of or assets and live essentially month to month. While all my friends have gone out, gotten married, had kids and bought houses I've been stuck in school. I'd like think that it's all been worth it - I think my research is important and I've certainly learned a lot. It's been fun but I'm glad that it's finally ending. I'm still not positive where I'm going after this is over - I'll be sticking around in the lab where I did my thesis work for a while to tie up some loose ends and get a bunch of things published. After that, who knows? Any suggestions?
