In two days I will undergo the most invasive surgery I have ever undergone. They are fusing my L5 and S1 vertebrae, but they are doing it anteriorly (from the front), which means they have to move all of my organs out of way do the fusion and put it all back. 2 nights in the hospital for recovery, and 42 days of convalescent leave to recover.
The risks are the common risks with any surgery, with the addition of accidentally nicing a vein that will cause immediate emergent repair, damaging the nerve that operates my right leg (my left leg doesn’t work from a former surgery), and the last one is that because they are putting a lot of pressure in my bladder area they could damage the ureter, which will cause my semen to swim into my bladder instead of out my penis.
I have so much to worry about, but I really want the pain to go away, so I can maybe get back to the gym again, work my self back up to doing 5Ks again. I miss going to the gym so much, and I’ve gained 79 pounds during the 2 years I suffered through pain and multiple surgeries, and losing operation of my leg. I’m excited and very scared.
