It been almost a week and several things of note have transpired. I turned 32 on Tuesday (thanks to Niobe for spreading the word), I finished a rough draft for the first act of the film script I'm being paid to write, I've logged almost 160 miles on my bike, and my weight today was below 300 for the first time in over 3 years (299.2). At one time I was up to 350 or so and I am feeling pretty good about things. My goal is to reach and maintain a weight between 240 and 260, so cheer me on.
My last blog was about the weather and I thought I would give you an update: AUGUST HAS ARRIVED. I guess the lion of summer decided to show up fashionably late, and did so with a bang. Mid to upper 90s, humidity hovering around 88%. And rain. Not the cooling summer rain you hope for, but the kind of rain that makes the humidity spike. I'm talking about a 10-15 minute downpour followed immediately by blazing sun. You can actually see steam coming from the grass.
The heat in Kentucky sneaks up on you like a good bourbon buzz when you are just sitting on the back porch with friends. You walk outside and think,"oh, it's not so bad out here in the shade". 5 minutes later you are slick with sweat and have done nothing to bring forth said sweat but stand there trying to breathe air that feels as thick as gauze. 5 more minutes and you'll be nauseous from the heat and headed back inside for your third shower of the day. I stay here because of the beauty of it all. Who among you can actually say that you get to experience an equal amount of all 4 seasons? We have mountains and prairies and more miles of waterways than any other state in the union. 1 more random fact: the Daniel Boone National Forest is the 3rd most biodiverse place on land on Earth. No shit, look it up. So come to Kentucky and sit on our porch and drink our bourbon and see what all the fuss is about. The city will still be there when you get home, and remember, the movie Deliverance took place in Georgia.
