An interesting question? When does the need to avoid insulting or offending the beliefs of others cross over from the decent and right thing to do and move deep into the realm of the crass and stupid?
I suspect it is somewhere long before you get to the point where you are banning mother fucking cartoon pigs because some half-witted twit who just happens to be Muslim finds goddamned Piglet offensive. Just me guessing, mind you.
Now don't get me wrong. If someone were advocating, say, beating the piss out of someone for the simple reason they were Muslim, or had the wrong skin color, or the wrong sexual preference, or their credit rating was too damn low, I'd be the first person in line to put an immediate stop to that. Hell, if someone wanted to display some off color cartoon image of a pig doing something deliberately offensive to Muslims (a pig doing a Mohammed impersonation, for instance) -- again, I'd be #1 in the line to take the offending image out of publicly funded space lest it hurt someone's feelings or make them feel oppressed.
But when your belief system is so fucking insecure that Winnie the Pooh's friendly pal Piglet constitutes and blow to your self identity, I have to wonder if you are not, perhaps, thin skinned to the point of absurdity (or at least serving as a serious liability for the human gene pool). I also have to wonder how such a person even manages to live in the UK at all, where a great many people don't just display images of Piglet, but actually eat the flesh of those nasty unclean beasts with a certain enthusiasm and relish that obviously is a slap in the face to right thinking Muslims everywhere . . .
