ok. for noiseslut, my top five shows of all time. it is hard to choose. i might have to do six.
- frank black at foley's irish house in SF. he was over the whole pixies thing and did some pixies songs, which was very exciting. other than that i think part of why that show was so great was just the time in my life and the person i was with and the space and the weather.
- godspeed you black emperor at great american music hall on halloween in 2001. i had no idea what i was in for. it was easily the most intense live show i've ever seen. the stage was covered in candles, there were eerie projections going, and the members of the band were looking sort of gothic but also sort of.. old west?
- jason molina from songs:ohia at some tiny theater in seattle. teeny tiny venue, and jason molina at his beautiful finest. he sure can belt them out. i love him completely.
- modest mouse at bimbos 365 club in SF, during noisepop last year. this is interesting because i had seen MM before, and wasn't really even thinking about whether i would be into seeing them or anything. i was just drinking and hanging out. then they came out and completely blew me away until i was crying.
- nick cave and the bad seeds at the warfield in SF. god could nick cave be more awesome? this was a fucking amazing show. lights syncronized with drums, nick cave freaking out and sweating on the front row.
runner up:
one of my favorite bands from my youth, deus, at slim's in sf. i used to love these guys to death. they are a strange eclectic band from belgium. they sing in english and play all manner of odd instruments. they were really tight live, and i was super impressed and just so so so happy to be able to see them live. at the time i felt honored to have heard of them at all, because no one else seemed to care about them.
i have seen a lot of shows, i'm realizing. some definitely stand out more than others. i really like seeing sf's imperial teen live. they do a great live show. i saw blue oyster cult once, that was awesome. DON'T FEAR THE REAPER. i am glad i got a chance to see dismemberment plan last year before they broke up.
you know who totally rocked my socks off last year live was THE FAINT. they are synth rock boys from nebraska, and they really completely rule live. they do this whole black button down shirt smoke machine backlit thing.
i love goin' to shows. i haven't done it for a while but there's a rock festival coming up in a few days and i have a pass to get into every event.
excitement!

oh man, I've seen a lot of great shows, but all the ones I thought were moving paled in comparison when I saw Diamanda Galas last year at Joe's Pub in NYC. I don't think the tears stopped pouring down my face til it was over. Then I peed in the bathroom with her.
