heya. i'm trying to get a credit card so i can pay for school in the fall. i'd like it to have at least a $2000 limit if that is possible. i applied for one and got rejected because i forgot to pay a phone bill in 1999. does anybody have any advice for the best way to get a good credit card if you have something bad on your credit? it's not even that bad, i have a ton of good stuff on my credit too. i don't want to get totally reamed by interest.

fixing credit: sometimes it is simply a matter of writing the credit bureau and explaining that the late bill probablem was not your fault - come up with some excuse - but as long as it was eventually paid, you can usually convince the credit places to remove it from your history (as long as its not something like a car repossesion or a bankrupcy). The problem is that there are 3 main credit bureaus so you might have to send letters to all three to be totally clean (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion).

Why do I know this? I am having to do the same with an unpaid Macy's bill due to change of address... Uhg!
