Watching The Ten Commandments last weekend reminded me of when I was a teenager and my mother telling me about the nuns she had as teachers when she was a kid.
She remembered when they were studying some sort of Catechism and the Ten Commandments came up. My mother, being the curious sort, asked for details on Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery, specifically, what is adultery? The nuns may have been horrified at the idea of telling a young girl at an all girls Catholic school the definition of adultery, but I have to think the question must have come up fairly often.
So my Mom was told that adultery was a 'very bad thing.' Of course, children's definition of a very bad thing is probably different from that of an adult, so in thinking back on it, Mom wondered how many times in her preteens and into her teens she had gone into the confessional and confessed having committed the sin of adultery to the bewildered priest.
