Raveness
Oh Raveness, beak lined with silver,
Show me to your nest.
With primped plumage and
Eager brow of fellow kin,
Wherein the troubled rest.
At noon to lay upon thine tender skin
And at eve to warm thy breast.
Flutter softly, sweet Raveness.
Cheeks flushed so with red
An oily, sweet, uncaring caress.
All fluttering flattery leads to the head and to the chest.
Flutter, flutter with flattery,
Raucous Raveness,
Peck and poke out,
Mine own splintered eyes.
Caw and call out,
Mine own flattering faults.
Oily thoughts bring oily words
Whose only wish to slither
Up the tree and to your perch
Promises of mirth, merriment, and fair weather.
Oh Raveness, with legs so long,
Troublesome as a smoker’s draw.
With hair as pitch
In the smoker’s lung.
Elated and soaring are thee
And flutter ever away from me.
