I have been a HUGE fan of the STAR WARS saga since my first experience watching Episode IV in the summer of 1978. It was quite a religious experience for me.
Now it is 2005, Episode III has finally made it's way into theatres and it was time to see the film that would tie the two trilogies together. It was my new mission to see what George Lucas had to offer.
Yesterday I met up with Niamh and Hetheral at a theatre on Granville for a 1:30 show. I was late so we didn't have the best seating situation (sorry guys).
All of a sudden I see "that phrase" on the screen. "A long time ago in a galaxy far away.......". While I was looking at the screen I felt like that little girl who was three years old when she saw STAR WARS for the first time. When the intro music started I shut off the world around me and concentrated on the film.
How was this episode in comparisson to the first two and the last three? Well let's see.....The effects were amazing and the light saber fighting was well choreographed. On the other side the plot was thin, most of the characters were once dimensional and the dialogue was brutal.
The film tied all the loose ends up but, it was missing something. I didn't feel any type of passion from "most" of the characters. They only one I felt anything from was Obi Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor). Ewan's ability to act in my opinion saved the movie. He IS the young Obi Wan Kenobi. If Sir Alec Guiness were alive today he would have approuved of this casting choice and Ewan's performance.
The Story was written in 1975/1976 so I was really amazed at how closely it related to our contemporary world which currently is at war.
The Evil Emporer= Dick Chaney and
Darth Vader= George Bush
I'm glad the movie was made and all the loose ends are now tied up. Lucas should have gone the route of "The Empire Strikes Back". Lucas should have enlisted a Co-writer to help with the script and better director should have been calling the shots on set. I felt like this movie was half hazardly thown together.
Over all I am satisfied with the outcome but, it's no "Empire Stikes Back".
After the movie was finished the lights came on and our shoes were stuck to the floor because of spilled pop. As the three of us were leaving the theatre we ran into d20. He arrived late and couldn't find us in the dark. So, we all decided to go to the Lennox Pub for food.
The End

I liked certain parts like how mace died and the actual part where all the other Jedi are killed off.. That was done well but there were so many fundamental things wrong with the story that it was a big let down for me.... god i'm such a geek
1) Anakin and W may both be incredibly stupid, but I just don't follow the analogy.
2) "I've got a bad feeling about this" is such a classic Star Wars line. Isn't it in all the films? Maybe I didn't think it was so bad because it was Ewan saying it.
Speaking of Ewan, whatever happened to him? When he first broke on the scene he was on all the superhot lists. Then he just kinda faded away into a generally well-liked respectability. You never hear anything about him in any kind of "he's so hot" or "he's banging some model" way. Is he no longer hot? It seems as though he's entirely sexless, somehow...
