DURAN DURAN LIVE AT GM PLACE MARCH 4th 2005
By Tara Taylor
In December 2004 the announcement was made that Duran Duran would be kicking off their North American Tour here in Vancouver, Canada. When I saw the ad for the show in a paper called The Georgia Straight I said to my self, "I have to call my sister. We have to go to this show together". My sisters' name is Lori and she lives in Winnipeg with the rest of my family. I called her up that the salon she works at and told her the news of Duran Duran playing here on March 4th, 2005. She was excited and told me that she would be here for sure.
I started counting down the days. I was so excited that two special events were going to come together at the same time. My sister was making he first trip to visit me here in Vancouver and Duran Duran is going to play a show here. What more could you want?
Christmas went by, January came and went and February raced by with out stopping and March finally came. Two days before her arrival she called me and asked me where we were going to sit in GM place. I said, "I don't know. I haven't gotten the tickets yet." She freaked and said, "I though you were taking care of that." and I replied, " We will get tickets when you get here. I don't want to get seats you wouldn't like". She said that she wanted floor seats. I said floor seats are for suckers and that I have a plan for getting tickets. She said, "O.k. I'll trust you and I'm coming in on March 3rd".
March 3rd had finally arrived. The city of Vancouver was hit with Durannie Fever! They were on the radio, people had spotted members on the street and you could feel the excitement in the air. I arrived at work at 8:30 a.m. with a skip to my step. One of my co-workers was trying to win ticks to Duran Duran on the radio and I suddenly had the urge to leave work and run to buy tickets. So, I told my co-workers that I'd be right back. One yelled out "Run Forest!"
I arrived at the ticket master that was the closest to work located at Pacific Centre Mall. When I arrived I asked the agent to show me the floor plan for the show. I found my seats. They were in Section 118 row 12 seats 5 & 6. Section 118 is the closest section to the stage on the left-hand side. I was excited and ready. I arrive back at work with a huge smile on my face.
After work I arrived at YVR (Vancouver International Airport) for 6 p.m. She was set to arrive but it was delayed until 7:40 p.m. so, I went into the hotel bar and had two beers to pass the time by. Finally her plane arrived. I saw her enter the baggage claim area and I was so happy to see her. We grabbed her luggage, grabbed a limo and head downtown to my place.
She was in a shock. She said that Vancouver looked so beautiful during the plane ride in and it's no wonder I don't want to live in Winnipeg. When we arrived here we relaxed; a friend of hers came over and my friend Lisa came over. The three of us went out on the town.
Friday March 4th, 2005 was a day that started off with a massive hangover. We went for breakfast at Milestones on Denman Street. After breakfast I took my sister and her friend Gail out for a walk around English bay and the sea wall. They loved the scenery and were totally lost. When 5:00 p.m. rolled around I got the dinner fixings ready, CJ came over and we had some soft tacos with Red Wine.
The tickets said that the Doors to GM Place opened at 7:30 p.m. and her and I were still getting ready. Gail left at 8 p.m. and CJ stuck around and drank wine as Lori and I prepped up. All of a sudden it was 9 p.m. Lori we were hot and ready to go. She wore a two pieced gold out fit (The top accented her boobs) and I was in a short black dress, with my PVC boots and a silver choker around my neck. We called a taxi, said good-bye to CJ, hopped in the taxi and left for the show.
