They say the sky is the limit - it's true and it feels so good!
I missed "my mountains" so much and I've only realized it yesterday, when I've come back to them for a day, with all my family.
We used to spend almost a month there in Trentino - Alto Adige, right after our seaside holidays, back in the days. I've plenty of pictures of the young-me running after the marmots, feeding the cows and playing around on those green fields at an altitude of 3000 mt.
Yesterday, it was my grandfather 80th birthday and we made on of his wishes come true: we celebrated it by going to eat something out at a very typical restaurant on top of Sass Pordoi, a 2950 mt. mountain called "the Dolomiti terrace" due to the wonderful view you can enjoy from its top.
You can both walk or climb to reach the restaurant (me and my dude we're planning to try the path later this summer, while my dad and my brother have already scheduled to climb the via ferrata next month!), but my grandfather is way too old and my aunt and cousins aren't that trained, so we took three cable cars that helped us to reach the top, but at the same time has allowed us to take walks along the rather flat paths in the woods.
How I missed those landscapes: the rocks, the peaks, the solitary trees, the clouds running fast in a bluest sky - but most of all, that peaceful silence.
Usually, silence scares me as it lets the conscience bring any kind of thoughts to my mind, and there's nothing more claustrophobic that drowning in an ocean of darkness in the silence of your own room. I've been there so many times in the past, I don't even recall it... But that silence, the sacred one of the mountains! I think I'll be ready to live it everyday of my life.
"Look at how small we are compared to those peaks, and to this silence. Maybe that's why people of these lands are so religious: they can feel how small mankind is" said the boy yesterday, while we were enjoying the view, astonished. He was so true.
At the end of the day, the weather wasn't as bad as we expected it to be, typical food and wine we had at the restaurant were incredibly yummy, the company was cool (at the threshold of 25, I'm finally getting along well with my family) and - most important thing - my grandfather was really happy and satisfied of our efforts.
Also, I'm glad the boyfriend had a good time with my family, and the my family seems to like him. I know it's not something to lose sleep on: I'm the one who has to like him - no one else has to - but y'know... it makes me happier
On a different note, I'm trying not to let my job swallow all my time and energies: I'm managing to sleep as much as I can in the afternoon so I can get out in the evening even if I have to wake up early, I'm keeping on reading and writing - even forcing myself to do so when I don't feel inspired at all - lately I talked with a published writer, he's my mother friend and we went to lunch together to talk about my interest in writing, and he suggested me to force myself a bit even when I don't think I'm gonna be able to drop a single line. It would improve my writings anyway, and grow my creativity.
I'm also planning some new photographic works... Just a bunch of talks? It may be. Honestly, I don't know if my timetable at work will allow me to keep up with everything I've got on my mind, but I don't care as long as making projects keeps me in a positive mood.
Before going to sleep, let me thank you once again all of you for the amazing feedback on my latest set Glaukpis! Roberto Girardi, the photographer, and me are really happy with all the love the pictures are receiving! THANK YOU!
1000+ comments and such an high percentage of "love" are reinvigorating my faith, and I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.
Each one of your comments are really making my days, I'm so thankful and happy with the community. I'm also trying my best to get back to you with all your messages and friend request, please bear with me as you are so many and I don't want anybody to be left behind.
Love,
Lauretta
