Firstly, I suck at updating things on here. I'll try and be better >.<
Secondly, I wanted to share a personal project that I've been working on, which I'm titling Ripped at Every Edge. What's it about? Here's the blurb...
My work is so often about creating characters - I wanted to switch that around. Make the character at the centre of the image the person I'm shooting with, not someone they're trying to be. Brandon Jordan - a Canadian photographer - excels at this style. His work as a raw, intimate quality that really shines through. You get an insight into the person, and there's a subtle blend of vulnerability, confidence, and empowerment about his work. I don't intend to ape his work completely, but his style is certainly influencing this project.
@missbrookesg
The other influences are modern life, and music. The project is intended to reflect the way we live - so there are no studio locations, no glamorous backdrops. Just real-world places, and real world people. Music, meanwhile, has a key role. The project title comes from song lyrics, and all of the sets are being themed around specifically chosen lyrics as well. But I'll explain more of that, including what lyrics I'm working with and why, in a further update.
@jasminelouise
So whats the ultimate goal? Well, I'm still working on that, but the current thinking is that I want this to be an art book of some kind. Not just a collection of images, though - more a collection of people, and snapshots of their lives.
@stephaniejo
Raw. Intimate. Confident and uncut. Frayed, but perfect.
You're ripped at every edge. But you're a masterpiece.
