I suppose this posting thing should be easy, but I am nothing more than a shaved ape with mild interest in all things technical...
...except for MP3s. MP3s were developed just to remind me how shitty the music scene was in high school (longer than you think) and how hard it was to get anything to listen to. I guess that's what made college radio so great. Connecticut, and especially that vacant hole home town, was rap and classic rock. You couldn't go buy anything worth listening to, so I spent all my time listening to UCONN, Trinity and Weslean radio and taping the shows to hear about punk and hardcore bands I wanted to check out. Even then, when I knew the bands, I had to take a bus into NYC to try and find them (Bleaker Bobs was like unto a gift from God at 16.) So now I'm going through the hassle of burning my OCD collection of music so that I can have the single most Late-specific piece of machinery in the world.
You know, I think that's what I have against most "punkers" now. It's SO FUCKING EASY to make, find and buy music that it's become a hobby. I mean, you have shitty high school bands like mine was making 32 track CDs and distributing them internationally. WTF was that? My band was TERRIBLE. (And, to be honest, more of an excuse to drink, write bad HC tunes and make out with this girl I was seeing than a "band." Ever fuck around to Uniform Choice?) these people aren't much better.
I work at this college here in MoN Virginia and one of the Tooth and Nail bands came. The singer was trying to hit on my then g/f (because he IS in a band) and so we talked. Okay, all T&N bands are shite, but this guy said that he was in this band because it gave him the best chance to get signed. WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT? I still think a successful band is one where the members don't need a "real job" to live.
I'm ranting and making no sense, I'm sure. I guess I miss Portland, OR. Even the posers were cooler than me there...
Happy Sunday.
