So my girlfriend Julia and I were walking home from Rudy's tonight (there was a band called Hygiene Wilder playing... pretty clever) when we were approached by a homeless man. I was about to give him a couple of dollars (the city of New Haven forces the homeless to pay to stay in a shelter... but that's another rant entirely) when he grabs my hand and starts ranting about how much I look like Jeff Foxworthy. Then he started calling Julia "Sugar" and trying to show me this cyst on his neck. The whole situation really freaked me out- I ended up just throwing money at him and running.
It's really just depressing to see people who should probably be hospitalized having to panhandle just to stay in a shelter. I suppose it's sort of hypocritical of me to complain about this though- I've never spent time volunteering in a shelter myself. Sometimes I worry that I only give money to panhandlers to assuage my own discomfort with homelessness, that I'm not really being altruistic at all.
Okay. Happier things. I got my Bob Drake CD in the mail today. I haven't gotten a chance to listen to it yet- I'll probably post my thoughts on it tomorrow.

oh yea, he didn't want to join us.
haven't seen him a while. I've found out homeless a ery migratory, not in some asshole meaning, but seriously. They'll go spend 5 months in a different state, like 2 states away.
