Hey, SG Land! How's everyone doing?
Some people have tagged me in posts on SG and others saw on my socials, so I decided to blog about it because this weekend was one of the scariest of my life. I was in São Sebastião, a city on the coast of São Paulo, Brazil, this weekend, during a horrible natural disaster.
A heavy storm devastated the city on Saturday evening. It lasted throughout the night and by Sunday morning, several districts of the city were either flooded by water or buried under dirt that collapsed down the mountains just behind the city. Entire neighborhoods and even part of roads have disappeared.
Me and my family were incredibly lucky. We were in a district just between the two most affected areas. The housecomplex we were in was flooded and the houses more to the back, near the mountain, were heavily taken by the dirt. Today, we were able to make it out of the city back to our home in São Paulo and throughout the road all we saw was devastation.
I wanted to make this post both as an "I'm ok" disclaimer but also to raise awareness: over 100 people are missing and over 40 are diceased. Hundreds are homeless and needing help. If you are in Brazil or know someone in Brazil, please make a donation! Check this link for information (in Portuguese) on how to help the victims! Some affected areas are only being reached by helicopter and donations are the most important thing right now! So help if you can, be it donating or spreading the word!
EDIT: Pessoal do Brasil também pode ajudar em dinheiro fazendo Pix pra conta do Instituto Verdescola. Informações aqui.
Much love,
Lara
