Hey, SG Land! How's it going?
As I prepare myself mentally for my first Hopeful set to come up -- A TRIP THOUGH SPACE AND TIME will be available in 4 months and 3 weeks!!! -- I've been taking my time to check out recent and old photosets, give some love to hopefuls and official SG models and just enjoy the community I finally get to be a part of.
One of the most amazing parts of SG is the diversity we find here. From nationalities to body types, we see and celebrate everything here, and that's incredible. However, just like anywhere else, we never expect to see ourselves in the front page.
I've heard about SuicideGirls long before I ever thought of joining. When I first saw pictures of official SG models and started following SG on Instagram, I thought that girls like me -- chubby/plus size/curvy/fat/whatever you wanna call it -- could never belong here. "Nudity", "beauty", "alternative styles" and "chubby bodies" on the same sentence? Shut up!
And then, @babu was SOTD and it was the first time I saw a body like mine on the front page and everything changed.
Finding other Suicide Girls like me and seeing them in spaces I thought were not for me was a huge deal breaker. I have learned to appreciate and celebrate my body and my individuality a long time ago, but that never stopped me from wanting to belong somewhere. Being accepted is, after all, a human need. Being different, out of the so called "mainstream" gets us to constantly get ready for the worst: being shut off, excluded, undesired, or just plainly ignored, even in the circles that are formed around alternative groups, because even inside diversity, there is sometimes a "right" or "acceptable" way of being different. Not here.
So this is a celebratory post to all my fellow SG and hopefuls whose bodies are considered too much for the outside world. Thank you for sharing your curves, your uniqueness, your beauty and your awesomeness so that other women like myself know that they deserve to be and see themselves however and wherever they want. We deserve to be celebrated!
