killing joke played at slim's tonight. they were a lot more laid back than the opening band amen. they didn't bounce around much but they played cleaner, heavier, faster and more like they had been playing for 25 years. always make an effort to go see them, even if they come around every 9 years or so.
amen was a great band from la but too bad their singer freak was so sloppy. it seemed like he was hamming for the video cameras and unable to contro lhis mic. i found it amusing that he derided evh when one guitarist was playing thru a 5150 amp (the other one used a marshall).
singer for killing joke emoted a lot. he had a great speaking voice. eloquent queen's english. his guttural war holler is something to be admired for as rough as it was it never coarsened his spoken words. lots of effect on his voice in speach as well as song. fucking great show.
the guitarist never broke a heavy sweat he just flew and writhed like a smug cobra making sardonic, sarcastic faces while he slithered in place. it seemd like he wanted to keep playing while the others left for a brief encore pause. both then and at last was he the last to stop playing as if he had so much more to give. i would have like to see them go for broke and break the 1 o'clock hour like so few do.
