I think I've decided on a vacation destination for November, Colombia. Colombia seems to meet all my requirements, historical sites, not too expensive to get to, outrageously cheap once you get there, good beaches, good weather.
The above is La Ciudad Perdidas, an ancient Mayan city found only about 25 years ago. It is on par with Machu Picchu, but many less people go there. It's harder to get to, the trek is 6 days through mountains and rainforest, to get there and back. Time for me to get in shape...
The 2nd week I'll be a lot more lazy, hanging on the beaches of Cartagena and such, but maybe take in a few sites in the neighborhood...
So, it appears I've made a decision. It's always more fun to go with a friend or two, but I've gone many places alone, and there are always a load of travelers and locals around to meet.
