Here are some of my pics from Argentina. It was a great trip, but not nearly enough time to do and see what they have to offer.
First, I flew into Buenos Aires, a really interesting and cosmopolitan city. Shopping (especially leather goods), all kinds of food, architecture, green space. The meat was especially yummy, and I had quite a few great honey microbrews during my stay. There was a meat and grain shortage though at the time, so things were a bit tense. Seems the farmers/meat producers were getting so much for their product outside the country that they weren't keeping enough for the people of Argentina. The president had to step in and set up quotas. My fave part of the city was...
The above is a shot from Recoleta Cemetery, a huge expanse of mausoleum type tombs, each with unique design elements, stained glass and sculpture. I spent many hours just wandering around. One day we took a ferry to Uruguay, went to the beach, and checked out an old Portuguese city. Then it was off to the Mendoza region where they grow wine.
Right by the Andes, this place was beautiful. I pretty much spent the whole time drinking and eating, visiting all kinds of wineries and vineyards, as small as the size of a garage, and as big as a museum (some complete with art galleries, shopping, restaurants, wine museums, etc.). I did find time to do some whitewater as well, which was a blast.
Now I've still gotta go back to see Patagonia and all it's natural wonders (glaciers etc.), and central Africa, and Burma, and Russia, and Easter Island and a million other places...
Regarding other aspects of life, this is a hell week for me, exemplified by the fact that I have to wear a suit 4 days this week (think I wore one less than 4 times last year). Not all of it's hell though, some of it's fun social things (a couple of benefits including one for fight_evil's awesome Strange Tree theater group), but I won't have a fucking minute to myself all week and that is a usually a recipe for rage and frustration for me. Oh well...
This Saturday! SGC Microbrew drunkards travel to Two Brothers Brewery for a tour, and some fine eatin and drinkin. Post or send me a message if you need to arrange transport.
Another random thought... I was talking to a close friend of mine about the inherent problem of being older and still single. One spends much of their adult life developing all kinds of ways to be content and comfortable (hobbies, lifestyle, everyday habits), and the big question is "am I willing to give some of those things up to really open up and love someone the way I did when I was a teenager?". While I know any relationship I do have will be healthier, since I am much more mature, a selfish (naturally developed) mindset will make it MUCH harder to find.
And last, but not least... NEW TATTOO! I have 2 July appointments with Mr. Cornink for some awesome new ink. It's will a travel tattoo with lots and lots of personal elements, some Celtic flair, religious mockery, etc. I can't wait! And also lookin forward to learning some guitar this summer. I need some serious fun, cause I'm in a boring and annoying funk lately.
Wow, guess this is what happens when you only post a blog once a month, blah blah blah
