So guess who hasn't been around lately? Yes, that would be me. Well, I've been around but too busy to be writing anything on here, or anything at all for that matter. Things have been rather hectic, I just got my notice from work today that May 4th will be my last day of employment at Stellar Nordia, so I've got 60 days to find a job and turn my life around. Oh how I hate deadlines.
I've now turned to Ebay to solve some of my financial troubles and so far it's working fantastically and as a result I now have more shelf space for books.
I haven't really been writing or taking pictures, it's mostly been stress and alcohol for the past few weeks. I did read all of Elizabeth Crane's books, and other than the fact that she has a huge thing for David Foster Wallace she writes some really good stories. If you want to find out why I hate David Foster Wallace read one of his books, about ten pages in you'll think the guy is a huge asshole.
So now I have to write up a new resume (where is my old one?), start sending it out, and quite quickly find out where exactly I want to work next. Definitely not a call center, definitely not.
I did overhear something funny today at work, a girl said, "I love my husband, I just haven't met him yet."
Also the reference letter that work gave us makes it look like we were incompetent and were fired instead of laid off. I can't quote what it says because I had my cat tear it up. It said something about being let go because of a "changing business environment" which makes it sound like I couldn't handle the changing environment so they gave me the boot. When we confronted management that their letter of reference was more of a slap in the face and that we should get new ones they actually said, "Be glad you got one at all."
So they gave me 60 day notice, but all performance goals still apply, so if I find a job to interview for I can't take off work because I have no vacation/personal time and it would count against me and possibly get me fired. So basically they're firing us and making it damned hard to find another job. We do get a $2500 severance payout, but 4-6 weeks after May 4th, so that would be 4 to 6 weeks without being able to pay any of my bills, and the last thing I will ever, ever do is ask anyone for money. I haven't had to ask anyone for money since high school and I'm not starting now. Also that's 4 to 6 weeks of not knowing where my alcohol money is coming from and that just won't fly.
Anyway, long story short, I'm a little stressed out. I have a friend's birthday coming up, an all-too-large cell phone bill, St. Patrick's Day (It's on a Saturday so I can go and recover on Sunday), and a whole host of other things. Short story shorter. Jobs sucks.
