My next set “Escape this Planet with Me” will hit member review on the 30th!! @brynx and I had so much fun at this location and it wasn’t even our first pick!! We originally were going to shoot in this lagoon looking area on Sauvie’s Island, but it ended up being all dried up. It must have been meant to be because Brynx remembered that there was an abandoned spaceship just a little further down the beach, which made for a great spot to shoot.
The story behind this abandon craft began with a fairly eccentric man named Richard Ensign. He believed there was need for a way out when society headed for it’s collapse. He brought his vision to life and built a saucer-like paddle boat that could sleep up to 12 people in 1972. When he set sail he successfully had the craft in commission until 1996’s large storm where tides and flooding pushed the craft so far onto the bank of Sauvie’s Island that it wasn’t able to return to the water. Over the years it has accumulated quite a bit of colorful street art and has become an interesting landmark many like to explore.
I decided to continue the spacey, UFO theme of this set and establish it as a homage to the French silent film "Le Voyage dans la Lune" (A Trip to the Moon) 1902. This film moved me the first time viewing it with it’s tone and artistic visuals. Oh what a dreamy experience it would be to be able to land on the moon and explore it’s beauty. ☺️😴☁️🖤🌘✨
(Here’s a couple shots of the spaceship 🛸)
