Here's a poem I submitted for class:
Awaking Alone on Mifepristone
I opened my red-rimmed eyes,
Sitting up slower than Sunday in Sing Sing
I clutched my pulsing womb
and knew the fruit was spoiled
I tried to breathe
I tried to ignore the crimson puddle
Steadily seeping, steadily growing
Steadily staining my heart, my hands, my knees
I tried to breathe
I tried to ignore the excruciating silence
I tried to ignore how it amplified your absence
( you were preoccupied with more important things)
