I love that everyone sees what they want to see. There's usually a common thread that runs through it all but people still see what they want. I'm sure that at least a few billion people will notice the sunset today and their feelings will run a wide spectrum from blankness to profoundity. I love that people answer the sunset with their interpretations, meanings, feelings as if the sunset was some sort of question. People heap meaning on to anything that catches their eye. I think that's so cool. It makes life so rich. It's the art of things.
A while back, the Ben Afleck movie Daredevil had just come out, I was in Las Vegas. I when to the Guggenheim exhibit "Art throught the Ages," at the Venetian and had an emotional meltdown in front of a Cezanne painting. It was, "Man with crossed arms." I'm not going to get in to what I mean by emotional meltdown, but I wasn't asked to leave or arrested or counselled or anything. Looking at that painting, even today, I see a perfect self portrait. Physically we have little more in common than skin color, but it the best image of me I've ever seen. I don't even like Cezanne that much. There was some other great stuff there. I was really happy I went. Art fucking rocks. The whole subjective meaning thing, I wonder if anyone can really ever know what someone else is thinking or feeling outside of this clumsy system of shared symbols that we call language.
