Thanks for all the birthday well wishes. 26... Jesus it sounds old. Thankfully my view of age has changed significantly from what it was in high school. Then, I had an idea of what it "meant" to be 25, or 30, or 40. I had these preconceived notions of the mindset that accompanied different numerical designations of age. Foolish and naive notions, I now realize. In having made many friends in their late twenties and mid-thirities, and as I observe myself age, I realize my previous beliefs were crap. People just don't change that much. Numerically, sure, but as far as personality and mindsets go, not so much. I still feel 22. I imagine I shall continue to for many years. Gives me a new perspective on my parents too. I imagine they still feel stuck a certain age, only difference being they have more responsibilities... children, a mortage, car payments, etc. But as far as our core selves, I think those develop much earlier in life, and remain in place for the duration of it. A reassuring realization.
Then again, I'm only 26... which I now see is still quite young. I expect I have a lot of maturing left to do, and though I'm not rushing it, I'll be curious to see how my concept of age changes, or doesn't, as I continue to go through life.
Merry Christmas all (says the atheist), and here's to enjoying the commercial bullshit of it all...
