In memory of Russell Enloe...
This is a long one, but hang in there...
Some may remember my post http://suicidegirls.com/update/edit1211069/ , but the friend in question was a gentleman by the name of Russell. I always respected Russell, he was a entrepreneur (Owner of Crown Merc and American Aces) who didn't compromise his vision and an all-around great guy. His ex and I never got together, in no small part out of my respect for him and as it turns out, they patched things up and resumed their relationship. I however never talked to him after that because I assumed he'd be jealous or angry that I was hanging (platonically) with his gal while they were apart. Not that he should but I had a bad experience with a mutual 'friend' (let's call him "Marcus') whose girlfriend (soap opera moment here) hit on me twice. I walked away from both times (at the time I was not single and very much in love anyways). For some completely fucked up reason, she lied and told him otherwise. One night, not too long ago, Marcus decided to be a cock and confront me in public. Trying to keep my cool, I told him if he can't talk to me man to man to save his own embarassment, to get out of my face. This happened about the time Russell and his ex were patching things up, and I was really soured on talking to him as I was under the assumption that men are jealous and irrational assholes when it comes to their 'territory'. I wrote him off as being like 'Marcus' and moved on.
Russell died last Wednesday of complicayions with a prescription medicine at the young age of 43. I spoke with his gal's mother the following day. She explained that when Russell heard about the 'Marcus' incident, he called him and chewed him out, In her paraphrased words, he said "You have Johnny all wrong. He was a total gentleman to {my gal) while we were split and you need to talk to him before ripping into him at a bar about something you don't know about".
I take pride in my integrity. Times like this, we get reminded what integrity really is.
Denver will miss you, Russell. The world has lost one of it's good rats, and I'm sorry I doubted you.
