I'm back from Kansas City! I'm just gonna churn out a quick blog, because damn it, I'm exhausted from the train ride, I didn't sleep, and I've been ripping and running, getting stuff done and writing articles so I can finally smoke and relax for the day!
It feels great to be home, but it's bittersweet, you know? I absolutely LOVED being with my family, and the services for my Great-Grandmother were absolutely beautiful. I cried so hard I could barely breathe, but here's to a great woman's 100 year legacy. This is her last year, on her 100th birthday, with an authentic letter from President Obama himself, congratulating her on becoming a Centenarian.
(Rest in Paradise, Greatest Grandma Mimi)
This trip has also made me realize how incredibly blessed I am to have the people I do in my life. It's ALSO made me realize how much I love taking the train cross-country. I absolutely love it and I plan on doing it more, which is totally possible now that I'm full-time for my job, AND it's a work-from home job, so I can spend days on the train as long as my articles get done.
Before Milloux headed to Portugal (I haz a sad ), she got me these weed cookies to take with me to KC. Holy, hell. I was high. TOO high. On a moving train. That is just way too high to be. I even had to text her how high I was, and we couldn't stop laughing.
Confession time: I bloody LOVE the microwave hotdogs on Amtrak and it's ALL I eat. That's my diet whenever I'm traveling via amtrak: Microwaved hotdogs, chips, apple juice, and blue berry muffins.
(THEY HAD A CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN. This buffet was BEYOND words, and I went berzerk looking at all of the desserts!)
Coincidentally, they ALSO had Frogs Legs. I'd never tried them because it didn't appeal to me. AT ALL. But it wasn't that bad.
I loaded myself up with SOOOOO much food. They even had Pho, which is this noodle soup (something I picked up while still-dating my now ex-boyfriend). But the desserts. Holy Hell. I kept going back for more. I literally tried everything once.
I forget what she was eating, but my younger sister (A proud Marine and Veteran) had tried something and she wasn't feeling it, lol. The gent at her right is her boyfriend, and one day...MAYBE husband? Who knows. She brought him down to meet the family and our dad, and me and my cousins didn't waste a moment's notice tormenting him and terrorizing him into thinking he was about to meet Satan himself, lmao.
And of course, it's kind of common knowledge that I descend from a LONG line of educated stoners, so I saved what little bit of cookie I had left for my stepmom, and then THIS happened:
(My poor dad had to deal with us being high-asses, but he was such a good sport about it, lol. He's waiting to retire from work before he goes back to smoking weed. Proud of him. )
And speaking of weed, my dad and my uncle gave me a GREAT going home present: Some of the best Kansas City weed I have ever had--disguised in a cigarette box so it wouldn't look suspicious on the train. Of course, anyone who knows me knows I don't smoke cigs, so it's kind of a dead-give-away lololol.
It rained while I was there and I LOST MY SHIT. Like, I was SOOOOO fucking stoked to see rain again after living in dry-ass California, so that was one of the huge highlights of my trip.
Over the next few days, I spent time with my family at my Grandmother's house--not my late Great-Grandmother, but my still-living grandmother on my father's side; the same one I'm named after her.
Whenever we all come together, there's so much love it's just incredible. Moreover, for the past 25 years, there's been a swingset in my grandmother's backyard--My sister and I (and ALL of the generations of kids) played on it often, and my dad took a picture of my sister and I reliving some of our best moments in Kansas City during our childhood:
Here's my Grandma and her three sons (ALL tall which is where my sister and everyone else gets our height from, lol). The one second from the left in the beighish sweater is my old man and I love him very much.
On my last day there, we swung by the nursing home where my Great-Grandmother, and her still-living sister, my 99 year old Great-Aunt was. It was SO hard to be there and see my Great-Grandmum's empty bed; and knowing that her sister, who she has ALWAYS been inseparable from, was alone now. It still tears at me, and as terrible of this may be of me to say, but I hope she joins my Great-Grandmother very soon--so she won't have to be alone anymore.
And here's me, my Stepmom, and my Great Aunt!
Finally, it was time to leave. My train didn't leave until 10:45pm on Sunday, so my dad, stepmum, and I, all waited around the train station for my train to come. And WOULDN'T YOU KNOW IT? I accidentally left my purse with them. Just as a testiment to how awesome they are, I was gone twenty-minutes before they called me and asked me where the train would be heading to next. It was an hour away from Kansas City, and they fast-and-furioused it to the next stop, BEATING THE TRAIN by a good twenty minutes. I got my purse back, and was reminded of just how lucky I am to have the amazing people in my life who love me, always help me, and have always got my back. (And yes, I totally cried on the train, lol)
And really, that's all for now! Don't forget that my new set with CDO comes out on October 3rd! I'm very excited about this because I have ALWAYS wanted to do a drag shoot/homage to my goddess, Grace Jones, and I say, hands down, it's definitely one of my best sets, and CDO is such a lamb to work with.
See you guys around!
