Hey there peeps, how are yous all? Hope yous are doing ok in these crazy times. I know it's been mad, my mental health has been up and down myself but I am getting there.
Before I start this blog. I want to say thank you to all that enjoyed my FSS Cosplay Special blog. It was Front Page and I want to thank SG HQ for picking my blog to be rooming in the Front Page. If yous missed out on that where I pick my favourite Cosplay Sets. Link the pink text. It has @nayru @evoke @hex @penny @leemalee @blaizee @fla @keshia @arachnie @gnomi and many more on it. I also want to say congrats to @evoke and @nayru as they recently got Set Of The Day for their individual sets. They deserve it, as well as the rest ladies on that blog if they haven't got Set Of The Day already.
So after I published that blog on the 30th of October, I took a break from all the hard work I did on that blog over the last few days and just chilled in my Halloween weekend. Since of course the bloody covid isn't dying anytime soon. There was no Halloween parties I can go to in my planned John Wick cosplay I really wanted to do. Oh well there's next year lol. Still it wasn't bad. Since I barely get invited to Halloween parties much, being that I am mostly a loner and a one man wolfpack (anyone got the reference?).
So I usually watch a lot of horror films and Halloween themed films in Halloween time. Sometimes horror games but I completed all the Horror Games I got. Except for Resident Evil 6 but that game sucks, not even a horror game or a Resident Evil game in general. It's all I can do in a chav junkie small beach town I live in Scotland. But I can't complain, I love watching horror films. Even tv shows like American Horror Story, The Haunting On Hill House (Still yet to see the new one btw), The X Files and of course Buffy/Angel. But TV wise I'm not watching any horror related shows atm. I'm actually watching old wrestling on WWE Network and New Girl. Yeah that's right New Girl, I enjoy the show I don't care. It's great, Nick is my boi!!
So in the middle of my three day Horror Movie Binge. I remembered that I did a Halloween Playlist blog two years ago that nobody read...well except for @avecalluna @doncella @elune @freyahz @hiptobes @jessieoops @leetattar @redlyme and whoever @user45787033 was (Probably a deleted account not sure) lol. But thank you to those 9 people. Goes to show who far I've come in the three years I've been blogging on this site. In beginning, I just blog for the fun of it. Today is still the same. I became better as a blogger over time and yeah thank yous for following me and reading my blogs. I does mean a lot honestly. Not bad for a nerdy emo Scotsman with ASD & mental health issues with also a wicked sense of humour lol. Yeah again check out the pink text. It's basically a list of Horror themed music videos I love. No pressure but if you want to check it out, go for it. May do an updated version of that one next year.
So basically it give me an idea to do this blog. Since I am more than just a guy who supports my favourite models. I love to write non modelling blogs too since yous guys enjoy that since everyone enjoys my Q&A and In General blogs so yeah why not. I love to mix it up and keep it fresh.
So here are all the films I saw in my Halloween weekend. And remember it's all my personal opinion. If you do enjoy or hated the films I watched, let me know in the comments. Love to hear your thoughts and start a wee convo cause talking about horror films is cool. Or tell me what horror films you watched at Halloween this year, that'll be even better since I need recommendations damnit lol jk. Anyway here are all the films I've watched......
The Addams Family (1992) & Addams Family Values (1993)
I started off with the lighter stuff first to get warm up on the horror movie binge and why not start with the Addams Family films. I haven't seen the animated one since I hear it wasn't any good. But I watched these ones. Still holds up. Their both good films but if I have to pick one. It'll be Values, I just prefer the story and the characters in that one. Especially Wednesday Addams which Christina Ricci did a great job as her, basically stole the film for me. Also Joan Cusack was great too. It was more funny the second one. Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy the first one too but what hold it back for me was the storyline with Uncle Fester & it was a bit messy. But I love whenever Raul Julia was on screen, he was gone too soon. The guy was so into his roles and played the part to the fullest. I mean his performance in Street Fighter the movie as M Bison is the only reason to really watch that film. He just enjoyed hamming it up and he is so awesome in a otherwise mediocre film, although it is a guilty pleasure not going to lie lol. But yeah Raul was the man and still miss him, excellent actor. Here's a fact about those films. It was directed by the same guy who directed the Men In Black films. Pretty cool eh. Yeah these films are good and still fun to watch. So it was a good starting point on my Halloween movie binge!!
Candyman (1992)
This was a recommendation I got from @sammiii since she was doing her 31 days of horror film challenge on her Instagram stories and this was one of them. I always wanted to watch Candyman for a while now. Since I always wanted to check out Clive Barker's films based of his books, even reading his books. Anyone remember Clive Barker's Jericho on the Xbox 360? Well I played a wee bit of it a few years ago and it was a demo of it. Since back years ago I use to read Xbox magazines and they always have a free cd of demos. Clive Barker's Jericho was one of them and liked what I played. Somehow never brought the full game. Like somehow I haven't watched Hellraiser or Candyman....til now in the 3 day movie binge for my Halloween. All I can say I was surprised by this movie. I actually thought it was going to be a straight up horror film but it was more a Thriller this film. Which is no bad thing at all. Thrillers is probably my favourite movie genre. I loved this film, it was so good and intense. You didn't know where the film was going. I won't spoil for those who haven't seen it but I highly recommend it. I actually didn't know much about this film. Other than it is based of Clive Barker's book and @sammiii saw it lol. But I enjoyed it big time. So thank you @sammiii for the recommendation, I'm definitely adding this in my Blu Ray collection. If yous loved Silence Of The Lambs, Seven, etc definitely check this out.
The Exorcist (1973)
This is without a doubt my favourite Horror movies ever. Such a classic. I always watch The Exorcist at Halloween. I mean it's one of my all time favourite films. I mean I'm still surprised how fresh it is, even though it was out in 1973. So timeless. I'm still kicking myself that I haven't got the Blu Ray of this film yet. It is definitely a must buy. Probably will get it and just watch it again. I just love the story and how creepy it still is. Still gives me the creeps in some bits like how the demon can speak English backwards and the whole bit with Karras seeing his mother but it's actually Regan. Yeah it still holds up and looks newer still. Probably cause many horror films have been doing the same old thing. Not all though, there is some awesome horror films out there but a lot of them are the usual slashers and gets a bit dull. With this film, this is how you do horror. Makes me care about the characters so we feel horrid about them being in the situation their in. For me that's how you do horror. Make us give a shit you know. This film does since before Regan was processed, she was a nice kind lass and you feel bad about this happening to her. Same with the mother cause she's a single mother and really cares for her child. And you feel her sorrow seeing her daughter getting more lost to the demon that is processing her. But she's doing everything she can. So there all good well written characters. By far Father Karras is probably my favourite character in the film. Since you also see his own struggles and get to know him through the film. I mean most priest in real life are actually like Karras, i know from experience in my School years since we went to church and that but the priest we had for our assembly was a good guy you know. So Karras reminded me of the Priests that I knew from my School years, mostly in Primary School (Grade school). Be cool if I knew they were Exorcist themselves. Doubt it since it's made believe but it would be cool. Be like Dante's Inferno, especially the video game where you go to hell and kick some demon ass. Or like my boi Keanu in Constantine. But I like how realistic The Exorcist is imo and I think it's cause the characters are realistic like Karras cause he's a good guy who is trying to help people. Reminds me of myself with my stuff online helping out the models with my blogs and post. Also he is getting over losing his mum too. So there's a lot of attention to detail in this film. The special effects and the makeup still holds up. It was so ahead of it's time this movie. It is the best horror movie, to me it is. The story is fantastic, the acting is fantastic, the effects are awesome, the camera work is spot on and it was directed so well. William Friedkin is such a great director. Yous should check out The French Connection as well, that's a great film that William directed as well but this one is still his best work imo. I did saw the second Exorcist film a few years back but it was crap, your not missing out there. The third one I still yet to see but a lot of people say it's brilliant. So may watch that one soon. But yeah I love The Exorcist. A absolute masterpiece!!!
Halloween (1978)
Yeah won't be a Halloween binge without Halloween right? So this was on my watchlist since I actually do watch this every year if I can. It is a classic and started the whole slasher genre. For better and worse. It is a very good film. IMO, better watching in the dark since it fits the atmosphere of the movie. Now I haven't any of the sequels since I'm afraid to, thinking it won't be good since I hear it isn't. That's why I stick to the original film. If I should watch the other films, let me know if I should. I won't say the characters are the best in this film since their mostly suck lol. But that's not the point of this film. I think the point of this film is of Michael Myers is loose and he's out to kill. Pretty much the plot to nearly every slasher out there isn't it. Unlikeable characters, a killer is on the loose, people get killed but the pretty girl, her love interest & the annoying funny sidekick lives. But in 1978 this film was original & was good for creating a cat & moose game of surviving the Halloween night from the psychopath in a mask really. I think it was the atmosphere and the intension building & building that works in this film. I do enjoy that and do think the film is decent. Especially around Halloween. Do I think it's a good film? Well it's decent but I don't think it's the best imo. That's why I haven't watched the sequels since I just to the original and the Halloween has been milked to death. I have the same feeling towards the Friday The 13th films. Only saw the first and think it was alright. Didn't bother with the sequels. Unless I get paid to watch them haha. So yeah not bad but I do think it is overrated since their is flaws in my view with story & character development. But still I do think the first Halloween is an enjoyable watch. Especially at Halloween, no pun intended.
The Omen (1976)
Saw this for the first time over the Halloween movie binge too. Now I have to be honest with yous about it. I didn't like this movie. Yeah I have to be honest with yous. I think the film is a bit stupid and tries too hard too be serious when it's quite stupid imo. I'm sorry but yeah I think it's goofy but also quite boring. I will say the legend that is Gregory Peck is excellent in the movie as he is always, imo one of the best actors ever. The guy can act and I wish I had that voice, so cool you know lol. But story the whole the little child is the son of the devil stuff and how silly the film is put me off. Also wasn't scary at all. Like the bit in the graveyard, I was laughing at it. Like come on, it's dogs. Also some of the deaths were funny too. Like it's so goofy to me. Even the music had me lmao. I'm sure there were spoofs of this film. I think Hot Fuzz did with one of the death from this movie. So yeah if yous do like this film. Great, more power to you and all. But I think this film was bloody stupid & quite boring. It's more an unintentional comedy this film to me. So yeah not for me haha.
IT (2017)
Ah finally, back to actual awesome horror films now lol jk. Yeah this was probably one of my favourites and it's so awesome. I mean since then I see so many cosplaying Pennywise. Like @infernum who Pennywise set I pick in my Cosplay Blog (Link Above) and @blaizee did one too for Halloween, which was cool too. Unfortunately no set of her in the cosplay but you can see pics of her if you scroll thru her profile & her IG. Anyway going off track. Yeah I love this movie, so so good. They really nail the creepiness well and it's always bleak dark looking too. They did an excellent job with this film. I think the actors were so awesome and the characters were awesome too. You actually care for them and their struggles. Like The Exorcist above, for me the key to a good horror is make us care for the characters and make us feel horrible for them in the horror their going thru. I think this film nails it and it's so well done. Pennywise is creepy and a true horror icon. I love that you don't know much about Pennywise, he is full of mystery & a lot of unknowns about him. It's basically a mystery too that the kids have to shove together to defeat is unknown being that is Pennywise. It's a total classic this film. Highly recommended. Now to it's sequel.....
IT Chapter Two (2019)
So I saw this for the first time over the Halloween binge fest. Somehow I missed this at the cinema since I was struggling to my mental health at the time. And my cinema was very limited so it wasn't on at good showing times and it's a bad cinema tbh. Me and my mates go to the one outside of town since it's bigger and a lot better. But they weren't available at the time. But least I saw Doctor Sleep at Halloween last year so it's not a loss. Anyway what do I think of IT Chapter Two? I loved it. It's another great film. Not as awesome as the first tbh and imo I think it drag way too long imo. I think they should've cut down the film a bit. Like 20 minutes of it perhaps cause their was scenes that felt like filter you know. I don't want to give away spoilers to those who haven't seen it 2 but there was bits that felt unnecessary to me. But not many. I remember watching the Tim Curry miniseries one and my least favourite part was when the loser club were adults. It was great when they were kids since the kid actors were really good. Can't say the same for the adults cause they were hammy as hell. Tbh watch some of the 90's Stephen King miniseries like Tommyknockers and The Langoliers. Their a good laugh since their hammy. But also Storm Of The Century is a must watch, that miniseries is really good tbh. I recommend that one as well. Anyway back on topic, the adult part in the IT miniseries was quite shite imo. After all the good in the kids part in the miniseries. Luckily in this movie, I like the Adult loser club now cause it was well done. Probably cause they pick a waaaaaaay better adult cast than the miniseries lol. Also I think it was better told as well. Again I actually care about the characters and it had it's scares. So I think it is a good sequel. Not as awesome as the first but it is excellent still. I loved IT chapter two. Definitely a Blu Ray buy!!
Scream 1 (1996) Scream 2 (1997) Scream 3 (2000)
So last but not least to wrap up my Halloween binge fest of 2020. I watched the Scream trilogy. Since I proudly own the Blu Rays. I even got the Scary Movie films on Blu Ray too, my germs lol. But yeah I love the scream films. Mostly cause it is self aware of what it is and just has fun with it. While also being a good film franchise with characters you care about. Wes Craven is the man. Probably one of the best Horror directors ever imo. I think he knew the slasher films were so samey so he went fuck it, let's be self aware about it and have fun with it. For me that's the scream trilogy. I haven't seen the fourth one yet but will eventually down the line. Tbh with yous, I actually forgot there was a fourth one. No joke lol. I do though that theirs a tv series on Netflix. I will watch that too but I think I should watch the fourth film before watching the tv series. But anyway I love the first three. Their awesome. Bloody, funny and just a good time. I enjoy Neve Campbell, imo underrated actress. She's always solid in the films, especially her character Sidney. Mostly cause she isn't bloody stupid and she isn't afraid to fight back you know. And she's likeable. I'm not saying that cause I had a crush on Neve Campbell........ok I did but she was good. Also Courteney Cox & David Arquette are great too in the film franchise. Their just so likeable in the films. Also it's well written and still a slasher at heart but it's the best ones cause it has good story, it's self aware, awesome characters, etc. I grew up with scream. Hell I even had the movie soundtracks and quoted it a lot. Especially the part where Randy goes...
I don't know, it makes me laugh lol. I even rip on my mates back years ago in college, phoning them up and doing the Ghostface voice. Yeah I'm a fan of the Scream films, still am. Their timeless. Now what will be my favourite one of the bunch is a tough choice. Their all brilliant imo. I do love Scream 3 since it pokes fun at Hollywood and even Scream itself, like I said their very self aware. It's a film series I will watch over and over again. It is brilliant. Definitely watch them if yous haven't. Your in for a big surprise.
The Conclusion
So that's it, that's all the Horror/Halloween themed films I've watched in my Halloween weekend. I hope yous enjoyed reading my thoughts and opinions on it. Their great films, well except for The Omen in my personal opinion. But everything else was great. I do enjoy having a movie marathon, I also enjoy writing up this blog and talking about it to yous. Since I know yous enjoy my non model blogs. I'm versatile what can I say lol.
