BlitzTurbo, friend, neighbour, and local games dealer asked me about my diet. I started writing this as a comment on his blog but it was getting very long so I decide to expand it into a blog.
It is a pretty hardcore diet I am on. Well hardcore compared to how I have lived for the last ten years. I've lived off of high carb food, two minutes noodles, booze, drugs, and woman since I was nineteen. I have consumed all with great bravado. I'm getting closer to thirty and decided it was time to make a major change for my health. (Note: I have no intention of entirely cutting out the booze and drugs but I have in the short term eased back in order to try and start with a clean slate. I did not drank at all for the first two weeks and when I did this weekend, I drank only vodka and soda water. I also noticed I got tipsy very quickly. As for the women, I recommend as much sex as possible. Excellent cardio.)
Before I started this I never ate breakfast and often skipped lunch because of how busy my days are. Dinner would often be my first meal of the day. I sustained myself during the day by drinking bucket load of coffee both to keep my energy up (I was tired all the time) and suppress my hunger. I have since learnt that because of this my body was likely storing fat because it never knew when its next meal was coming. That combined with eating high carb meals late at night meant my weight has fluctuated around ninety five kgs for several years.
Here is a rundown of my diet. At this pint I am three weeks in of twelve but I plan to keep close to this after the twelve weeks. I will probably become looser with the types of food I eat but not the duration between meals.
I have completely changed my lifestyle when it comes to eating. You have to view it as fuel to help burn fat not a social, happiness, or sadness deal. I eat six meals a day at the same time everyday (three of those meals are protein shakes). Those meals are very limited in range and taste. You get used to it. When I started I craved other food but once I started seeing results I stopped craving them. I tend to be a strong willed person so I haven't found it too difficult. I don't really have an emotional connection to food which I'm sure helps. If you do have an emotional connection you really do need to work on beating that before you attempt this.
I eat first thing in the morning and then have a protein shake three hours later, then after two hours lunch, then in three a shake, then two dinner, and then in three another shake but only if I am hungry.
Each meal includes a protein portion (Tuna or other type of fish, chicken, very lean beef), a low GI carb portion (half a cooked cup of basmati rice), and salad or veggies (I've been eating only salad as it takes less time to prepare). I eat portions about two thirds the size of my palm. Eating smaller meals every few hours kicks your metabolism into gear so that your body is working hard to burn fat all day. At first I felt hungry all the time. This is ok. This was my body waking up. It went away by the second week. I also drink up to four litres of water a day. I pee a lot.
In terms of exercise I walk at a hard pace for forty minutes (about 4kms) every two or three days and doing some basic weight training & cardio at home for a half an hour on alternate days. Lifts, curls, flys, jumping jacks and sit-ups. I do five sets of fifteen repetitions of each. I had no idea how to do most of this stuff so I looked it up on YouTube and found a bunch of stuff. I bought two three kg barbells for twenty bucks at a sports store. They seem to be working for me. I'm sure as I get further in I will buy heavier weights but seeing as it has been fifteen years since I have done what would be called regular activity I started light.
I lost five kilos in my first week. I slacked off exercise wise last week and only lost two. I plan on pushing myself much harder this week.
Also what really helped was that I walked into general pants and bought two shirts I can't fit into. Awesome motivation.
Ok I should actually do some work today.
That is all.

This is going to sound hella dumb, but... where do i get protein shakes? Isn't a heavy protein diet really dependant on doing heaps of exercise? I always thought protein shakes were for body builders ._.
Where do you walk? Do you go along the track past the science centre? When do you go? Would you mind if I tagged along? I dont think i'd want to do weights, but the wii fit program has a great cardio program.
If I could get myself under 100kg, i'd be stoked, ive been hanging around 102-107 for years now.
