Last night i geeked out even before having seen Inception. It was without a doubt the only film i have been super excited to see this year. Sitting here i honestly can't think of anything else i have really been waiting to see.

The film is already starting to have a slight backlash due to its almost universal acclaim. I'm getting a lot of; "What's the big deal?"

I can only speak from my perceptive. Film taste like taste in art is extremely personal. For me it's about the director. In this case the writer/director Christopher Nolan.

BrokenPixel wrote on my last blog:

Does Christopher Nolan have that large a body of work to warrant that sort of accolade?

To me that would be a yes. Following (made for seven grand over two years), Memento, Insomnia (his weakest film but also the only one of his films he didn't have a hand in the writing of), Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, and now Inception.

I don't get excited by film the way i used to, not even the by films i really love but his films excite me. They have a rhythm and pace that i am in awe of. I make films, I understand the construction of them, I have seen behind the curtain. I know that when the medic with the throwaway joke line from the first act shows up for no good reason in act two that he will turn out to be the killer. I think because of the way his films move I don't have time to process that. I'm too busy being pulled along by the plot and characters.

Inception blows everything else i have seen this year out of the water. I walked out of the cinema shaking. The last film that did that to me was Fight Club eleven years ago. For me, Inception sets the bar of what is possible in big budget cinema. I don't think I will ever direct on that scale but it is amazing to know that it is possible and It made me want to go out and shoot something. Which i am very soon.

I'm going to see it again tonight.

What excites you in film? or whatever it is that you do? Who inspires you?

That is all.
