Enlightened Art has always been dedicated to showing up on Roosevelt every First Friday to display our artwork to onlookers. This first friday we had a battle with mother nature's elements. There was ferice wind and blinding dust storms which made our set up very complicated. Last month we aquired a tent to give our veiwers a walk in feel to our display and it proved to be very affective. This month when we arrived we saw fellow artists packing up and leaving because of the wind, but we were determined to stay and show our work. We also noticed a large fence across the street which enclosed a fairly large plot of land. We knew that bulding would start and we wouldent have very many First Fridays left if they commensed more building in our empty lot.
Jesse and I started to set up our tent which proved to be difficult because of the wind. The tent kept blowing away and unhinging. The was one giant gust of wind that came out of nowhere and bent the metal frame of our tent and crippled it. Derik soon arrived and thought of tying the tent to our cars so it wouldent blow away which was sucsessful. We also used old proposition poster boards to break the wind.
After blistering sandstorms, giant gusts of wind and some bloody hands we finally has a stable set up. During the later hours the wind started to dye down and we were able to take out our merch table and sell some goodies to to some local art supporters. During the night we had some trouble with some onlookers touching Jesse's fragile work, so we're going to put a no touching sign next time. Jesse, Derik, and I sat there very pleased with oursleves for sticking out the wind and not going home that night. Enlightened Art will always stay true to their first fridays tradition.
