I bought tickets to see Daniel Tosh (stand up comic and host of Tosh.0 on Comedy Central) back in June the day they went on sale. 3rd row seats! My ex- and I were still together then, and I had fully intended to take her with. However, in the intervening months, she decided that the guy I had let stay on my couch for a few months was a better mate for her than I was. Now they are living on her mom's couch, he still has no job and his only source of income is the welfare money that he gets once a month.
Surprisingly we still talk about once a week, she doesn't mention her new 'boyfiend' and I still act like I'm her friend. Mostly so I can be there when Fuckwad screws her over and they break up.
A couple months after the incident, she asks "So am I still going to go with you to Tosh?" I reply, "I don't know. Depends on where I stand relationship-wise when the show date comes around".
So... Ego wounded and self-esteem shattered, I was bound and determined to find someone better to take with me. My criteria is pretty simple too. Under 30, under 120 and knows who Daniel Tosh is.
I had signed up on a couple of dating web sites thinking if "it's just a show. Tickets paid for. Someone should bite". No such luck. Not even so much as an email response (I'll rant some other time about the fallacy and my disappointment over dating websites).
A month ago, I was chatting with a girl I know who fit that criteria, mentioned I had an extra ticket and she was excited to go! "It's a date!" I think to myself, even though I know she probably wouldn't be interested in going on a proper date with me. So, a week ago, I reminded her again. She's still excited to go. A day before the show, "I have to work on the night of the show and I don't think I can find anyone to cover for me with such short notice. I can't go."
Fuck! So I scramble to find ANY single woman that I know that would go with me to a free show with no expectations. Just a decent girl that I can enjoy the company of. No such luck.
FML... I'm taking my buddy, Mike...
[UPDATE: Mike can't go either... FMLx2]
