My friend's dad had this beautiful piece of American musical history collecting mold in a basement, in an unplayable condition! A month or so ago I saw this semi-hollow 1950-something Gibson, and I just had to know what it was like to play something like that. So I spent a few days fixing it up! It was so exciting/rewarding/inspiring - at first, I was just supposed to fix the fret buzz and put new strings on it. Then all of a sudden some cognitive shift...
... busted out the Clorox to take the yellow tint off of the headstock...
I used a brush and some pens to ink the chipped wood on the headstock! It really started to look great. I used some grease to take the rust off of all the metal, got all the nasty dead skin out of the fretboard... lol ... and did the intonation. I was shocked to see that the bridge wasn't actually connected to the guitar, it sort of just hung loose - I thought maybe I should glue it, but with the tension from the strings it held nicely and probably is responsible for the signature "jangly" tone that the cowboys were getting out of the guitar in those days
