I've been working feverishly on a scrapbook full of pics of my dad, for my mom. I am trying to get it done before June 9th *this is when we leave for "vacay" up to see Mom. Dad's memorial service is also that weekend, so I'd like to be able to have this at the service for people to look at.
Looking at all of the old pictures makes me miss him so much, but it also reminds me of all of the good times that I had with my dad. In fact, I find myself calling my mom just to share a story. LOL. We laugh, then cry for a minute, then laugh some more. My dad was a funny guy.
So I 've been talking to my mom and just a few hours ago I talked to my dad's best friend Don on the phone for about an hour. Don and Dad were in the service together, stationed in England and Spain. Don had me cracking up - he was telling on my dad big time!
I wanted to share some of the weird things I have learned about my dad over the past few days...
1. My dad got arrested for pissing on Big Ben. He was apparently meandering around London completely smashed and had to pee....lol.
2. My dad was super proud of his body. He often wore speedos **shutter** and...
3. Liked to have sex in public ***double shutter*** (Thank you so much Mom for telling me that!)
4. Most of the stories he told us as kids, that we thought were total bull shit, were 100% true and he left out a lot of the good parts (see #1)
5. My mom hit on him - and he told her to "take a number". Fwhat!?! (That is not a new story to me, but I love to tell that one!)
6. When living in Maryland just after I was born, some asshole was tailing him really close on his way home from work. My dad had apparently had a bad day, because at the next stop light, Dad got out of the car, walked back to said asshole (who had also gotten out), punched him in the damn face, and left his ass on the pavement. Dad calmly got back in the car, came home, and told my mom about it. (It's amazing I even knew my dad. Apparently he should have been in jail a few times)
7. Dad drove the Krispy Kreme truck when I was a baby, delivering doughnut in downtown D.C. When he would get home, he would pull me out of my crib, take me into the living room and we would eat liver and onions
and watch Linda Ellerby (some news chick). Apparently, this is when we bonded.... lol.
I could tell a million stories about my dad, but I'll just leave these few for you to enjoy. My dad was cool as shit, even though I may not have told him that. I miss him tons!!!
So, the next time some jack ass rides your ass, think of my dad... but don't get out of the car (people carry guns now-a-days!!)
**mwah!**
