What makes a hero? I'm not talking about costumes and superpowers and radioactive spiders.
What really really makes a hero?
I've read alot of books and comics, and watched alot of TV, movies, and anime during my 19 3/4 years of life. Maybe not as much as some of the rest of you, but out of all that, out of every fictional character I've ever familiarized myself with, Goku has always been my favorite. Now, I know alot of people say that (and I'm sure everyone who really really knows me knows that I have a weirddd love for Gohan, haha), but really, instead of asking why, why not? You may not be familiar at all with Dragonball, or Dragonball Z. you may hate it or love it, but every single one of you has to admit that Goku is the greatest hero ever created. He is an inspiration in every way, shape and form.
He has undying optimism, even in the darkest of times.
He is not afraid to show his weaknesses, harness them, and use them to his advantage
He is strong and serious when he needs to be, but goofy and loving is who he really is.
He is not afraid to learn from his mistakes and grow from them.
He fights the toughest of battles, wins the longest of wars, gets beaten down at every turn and yet at the end of the day, seems just happy to be alive.
You may say that it's just fiction, he's fighting aliens from other planets. Fuck, he's an alien himself! But, isn't our world filled with villains as well? They may not have super powers, they may not have horns and blow shit up with kamehameha waves, but aren't they just as evil? Just as determined to destroy? We have people like that now, in this time, in THIS earth.
Where is our Goku? Who's going to save us from ourselves?
I think we all need to take a look inside, and learn a little from Goku. It's ok to be different, it's ok to be weak sometimes. And it's ok to be a little bit of a hero in our own way, everyday.
Thanks Goku, for being a REAL role model. And thanks FOX for fucking that up for future generations with your bullshit movie.
