So at the start of the year I took up running. I'd always been the sort of person who shirks any exercise more strenuous than walking, but I felt it was about time I gave something back to my body. So I signed up to a gym, hit the treadmill, and set myself a resolution: enter and complete a 10km run before the end of...

I'm currently approaching the end of Good Morning, Midnight by Jean Rhys, and for once I don't have half-a-dozen books competing for my attention next. That's thanks to @colombia, who suggested I pick up Anaïs Nin's Henry and June. It's an account taken from Nin's diaries detailing her passionate love affair with Henry Miller and his wife, June Mansfield. I love having books recommended...

Every time I suggest a book to someone, I get a nervous feeling in my stomach wondering if they are going to enjoy it as much as I have. It's almost like I'm exposing a part of myself and waiting for judgement. I'm strange when it comes to books. I hope you enjoy it.
kristian_jackson:
Oh I know what you mean - I'll encourage someone to read a book or watch a film I really love, and when they do I'll panic that they won't like it, that they'll pick holes in it or find flaws that I hadn't thought of before. But I trust your judgement on Henry and June, and I look forward to reading it and sharing my thoughts.

Maybe not the most obvious listening for 9a.m. on a Monday morning, but these six tracks - picked by Manchester writer and blogger Fat Roland - are all really bloody good. Prurient's "Through the Window" deserves special mention - it's a near-18 minute epic that remains thrilling every second of its running time.

I wouldn't describe myself as a huge Star Wars fan (Empire Strikes Back aside), but Marvel's announcement of three new Star Wars titles at SDCC is pretty exciting, simply because of the creative teams involved. Jason Aaron and John Cassady! Kieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca! Mark Waid and Terry and Rachel Dodson! That's some serious A-list talent on all three books, and I'll definitely be...

Just noticed that Eleanor Friedberger is playing Manchester next Sunday. I really should make the effort to get out to that - I'm a diehard The Fiery Furances fan, and her most recent solo album, Personal Record, is pretty damn fine too. I'm feeling a little music-ed out after Primavera and ATP Iceland, but for Eleanor maybe I can make an exception.

The folks at KEXP Seattle have posted a nice little review of ATP Iceland 2014 here. Although I must admit, I might be biased in its favour due to the fact that I feature in one of the photos, along with a few of the people I went with. The Icelandic flag I'm wielding made us all a lot of new friends, too -...

I feel bad wishing it was December already, given how spectacular the weather has been in Manchester for the last week or so. But the 2014 Warehouse Project line-up was just announced, and one of the events has an incredible line-up, and dammit I'm impatient! I've had to settle for playing Jon Hopkins and John Talabot all day whilst working. Not quite the same...

I don't find the time to write anywhere near as often as I'd like to, but I have a blog that I update on a semi-regular basis: http://identitycrutches.wordpress.com/. It's a fairly unfocused look at the world of comicbooks, covering the stuff I'm reading, news/announcements, and whatever happens to be on my mind at any given time.

Used to love this site back in the day ("the day" being roughly 2008). My old account was tied to a now-ancient email address, so it's lost to the annals of time, but six years is such a long time anyway that a fresh start definitely makes sense. Very much looking forward to diving back into the community!

Awesome, SG really is a community! So glad I went for it :) Just wish I could afford to do more shoots!
kristian_jackson:
I can safely say we're all wishing for that, @smudge_!
