The show was lots of fun. I didn't like the local band but the band who's been traveling with them the whole time was really cool. bloom. I tried to buy their cd but it was sold out by the time I got there. I should've gone before getting my coat. The girls were all really cool and I loved all their music and dances....

I visited the Finger Lakes on my first moto tour, long long ago. I used to be friends with a guy who lived in Cazenovia. We worked for the park service in Texas at Big Bend National Park one summer during high school. I don't know what became of him. But I do remember it was beautiful up there. It's the only place I've ever gone swimming in a quarry.
The party was lots of fun, I'm glad I got to meet a lot of you guys. We should do that again soon.

all you need is a check for $7 (in 1999 anyway), and they hand you a permit... then you can ride by yourself anywhere... but not at night.

I just looked at my learners' permit (1985!).
Back then, you had to take the computer "written" test to get your permit. 75% was the same stuff as the car exam (which color on a traffic light means stop? A: Red B: Green C: Purple). The rest was pretty basic bike-specific stuff that was all in a little booklet that they gave away free at the DMV office. The permit test was all about as hard as the above sample question, and you were allowed several wrong answers.
I suggest calling DMV to see if they still give out the booklets. I bet they're the same as 17 years ago. Then you can read it a few times and get your permit when warm weather draws nearer.
Be sure to sign up for the class early. Up here in CT, the spring classes fill up within a week of registration opening in early March.
I think you'll have a lot of fun.
